Picacho Peak State Park, AZ

The park manager here used to be at Picacho and told us that we needed to get up to Picacho and see the flowers; today we made the trip.  Picacho Peak State Park is located right off of I-10 between Tucson and Phoenix.  There is some great hiking trails through out the park for all levels of hiking.  There is even a Children’s Cave Trail that was really nice and leads to a small cave at to top that kids can go in and play.  We were really impressed with the park and its beauty.  There is numerous picnic areas and there are RV site but they have electric only, so make sure your reserve water tank is full.  There is a place in which you can fill your tank and there is a dump site, but a word of warning be prepared.

There is a hike that will take you to the top of the Picacho Peak that is a 3.1 mile up the peak and you will be at an elevation of 3374.  They say the first two miles are a moderate hike around the base of the peak and then it become a difficult.  Make sure you have water and have the proper shoes.
